英國約有500 所私立寄宿學校，可分為男校、女校及男女生混合學校各類型，通常一接收3至18歲的孩子，提供學前教育、小學、初中及高中的課程。大部分的寄宿學校除了根據學生的校內或公開試成績來決定錄取學生與否，學生亦需通過學校的入學試。
在寄宿學校，學生在課餘參與不同體育運動及社交活動，認識自己潛力，增強個人信心，培訓獨立及適應群體生活。
私立寄宿學校按學期收費。一學年共有3個學期，每學期學費連寄宿費約6000英鎊至12,000英鎊。這費用包括學費、膳宿費等。此外，一般家長需額外支付機票、假期住宿、校服、學習樂器、英語課程、個人保險和監護人服務等費用。
開課日期
英國學校於九月開課，每年共三個學期。一般寄宿學校不接受插班申請，不過部份學校會評估學生的程度及申請時間，亦接受一月及四月的小學或初中插班生。由於申請需時，本中心建議提早作出申請。
